Living in the forest of northern Sardinia with a view of the sea and Corsica
Baraka found its place in the middle of huge cork oak forests near Luogosanto. Here we are at about 500 meters above sea level, exactly between the highest mountain in northern Sardinia, Monte Limbara (1500 meters), and the coast, which is still only a 25-minute drive away.
In this now heavily depopulated rural area, there are a large number of plots of land for sale. This means there is sufficient spatial potential for people who want to share Baraka's vision and build their own place to live here.
With our vision of a neighbourly rural community, we can build on the historical culture of the Stazzi here in Gallura. The Corsican-descendant population of this area has lived largely self-sufficiently on scattered farms in the valleys and hills for many generations. Older neighbours tell us how, up until the 1960s, children's voices could be heard everywhere in the forests from the many families living scattered there. In recent decades, the hinterland of Gallura has become quiet and many farms have been abandoned and dilapidated. We feel warmly welcomed by the mostly elderly people who still tend their gardens here or keep a few goats.
